ANTIQUE

DESCRIPTION Up for bid we have an ANTIQUE E. G. WEBSTER VICTORIAN ART GLASS BRIDE’S BASKET. This is really a beautiful one of a kind piece. It was normally given as a bridal gift back in the Victorian era. We are told it is a family heirloom and is over 100 years old. It was made by the famous Meriden Britannia Company which was formed in 1852 in Meriden, Connecticut. The Rogers Bros. firm was purchased by Meriden Britannia in 1862, thereby acquiring the 1847 Rogers Bros line. They were one of the original companies that joined together to form the International Silver Co. in 1898. The M. B. makers mark is on the bottom of the silver plated base. This Victorian Bride’s bowl is from the end of the 19th century. It has colors of cranberry with golden clusters of leafs and flower designs. The art glass basket measures 10 ½” across the top and scalloped down 3 ½” to a 4” flat round surface that fits nicely into the silver base. The eight sided decorative silver base measures 6” high and 5 ¾” across the bottom of the base and 4 ¾” across the top. With the base and art glass basket it rest 7 ½” high to the top. The base is made of rare Quadruple silver dipped four times in silver. The base metal is either Britannia metal or white metal. The style of the glass is called Peach blow, and that is where the rose or cranberry coloring begins as a soft, opal white in the center and deepens as it reaches the crest or rim. The face is cased to a lovely white bottom. This rare piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs to the glass or the silver. The silver plated highly decorated base could use a little cleaning but decided to leave the original patina for the next owner. If you love Victorian beautiful glass and silver rare “one-of-kind” items this may be the one for you. We will pack it very carefully and insure it for you.
