Rare Victorian Art Glass Bride’s Basket Silverplate Picture(s) and Description:

Rare

PLEASE READ PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS B4 BIDDING!!! I am pleased to present here for auction a very rare Victorian Period Bride's Basket. Coming fresh out of an estate this is the first of it's kind that I have ever run across in the 8 years of selling Art Glass and Bride's Baskets. Rare to find an Art Glass Bride's Bowl in this color and design and the Silverplate Stand is quite an ornate and elaborate piece. Both pieces when displayed together as it was meant to be makes quite a dramatic statement! Appears that both pieces are original to the Set as the Bowl fits snugly into the Stand insert and the exterior of the underside bowl shows the dimpling from where the four points on the Silverplate Stand rests next to the bowl. The whole Bride's Basket complete stands a whopping 12 1/2" high by 9" wide at it's widest point. The Art Glass Bowl measures 4" high by 9" wide at it's widest point. The Silverplate Stand measures 9" high by 6 1/2" wide from point to point on the four upper points and measures 5 3/4" wide at it's widest point of the feet. The Art Glass Bride's Bowl is shown in a cased glass with a very unusual and rare color of YELLOW and ORANGE shown in the Nailsea or Spiral design with a solid YELLOW interior. A nice round polished Pontil Mark is shown on the bottom with other polishing around the base to level it out to rest flat on the Stand. The Silverplate Stand is very elaborate and distinct in it's form and design. Four separate points turn up to meet the underside of the Bowl and a very ornate repousse' figural stem is shown with two separate raised out GARLANDS, one on each side which adorns the middle of the stem. Flanking each side of the GARLAND are two ornate stylized wings. The base shows four separate feet with repousse motifs also to complete the Stand. Although not signed, it is guaranteed to be from the 19th century and with Silverplate Stands from that time period many of them were not signed. In researching this piece from my library of Art Glass books this same design in Art Glass Bowls was shown in the ART GLASS Identification & Price Guide by John A. Shuman III on page 187. It is shown in a smaller bowl with a clear glass thorn handle and in a different color but the same design in cased glass and is valued at $195.00. The Art Glass Brides's Bowl that I am featuring here is in a rare color and much larger to fit the Silverplate Stand. I have spent much time researching Bride's Basket all over the net and have yet to find another piece such as this one shown here. As I mentioned before in my 8 years of buying Art Glass this is the first of it's kind I have ever run across in this COLOR and PATTERN. The Silverplate Stand is very unique and elaborate and difficult to find one this ornate and in it's size. It almost is shown as a TAZZA since the handle is not shown like most Bride's Baskets usually come with one. In doing research I am leaning towards Stevens & Williams, Thomas Webb, Mt. Washington or possibly Loetz as the Maker of this Art Glass Bride's Bowl. But since it is unsigned I cannot guarantee the Maker of this fine piece. If you are looking for an unusual and spectacular BRIDE'S BASKET from the Victorian Era in such a rare color and a Decorative Art piece to make a statement then this is the piece for you! Condition: The Silverplate Metal Stand has been left in it's original condition as found. I have not cleaned as some Buyers prefer the aged patina be left alone. Due to it's age and not being cleaned there are some wear to the finish and aged spots shown here and there. Please view my images closely as they are being used to also describe this piece. On the base where the aged spots are shown there are a couple of very subtle dents but due to the aged spots it is not noticeable. The Art Glass Bride's Bowl is in very very fine condition with NO chips, cracks or breaks. There is manufacturing dimpling on the underneath side where apparantly the four points meet the bowl and some other minor dimpling also. On the center base where the polished Pontil Mark is there is a scratch coming away from the pontil mark and meets the edge of the stepped base. I have held under the light and it does not go through as it is a scratch and not a crack. I accept PAYMATE not Paypal as my form of online payment.
