Victorian/Nouveau STERLING SILVER CIGAR/CHEROOT CUTTER Picture(s) and Description:

INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS PLEASE SEE SHIPPING & CUSTOMS COMMENTARIES & POLICIES AT BOTTOM ..... SIGNED STERLING SILVER CIGAR/ CHEROOT CUTTER DEEPLY EMBOSSED NOUVEAU/FLORAL DESIGN F&B ~ FOSTER & BAILEY ~ PROVIDENCE, RI VERY GOOD CONDITION 1878-98 ....... Offered is a very fine old pocket/desk cigar cutter in nickel-plated steel with deeply embossed sterling silver handle casing. Approximately 4-1/2 by 3/4 by 1/2 inches, it weighs about 1.4 ounces (40 grams). "F&B (in pennant/flag) / STERLING" Hallmark used 1878-1898. Inscription areas were never engraved/personalized. Deeply embossed Nouveauish design of flower blossoms, foliage and fleur-de-lis motif. CONDITION VERY GOOD PLUS + No wear, repair or noteworthy dents or scratches. One very small (less than 0.01 sq in) and shallow wanna-be dent on the unsigned inscription area (see 2nd & 6th images). Very limited handling-/storage-wear surface micro-scratches. A small amount of surface oxidation affects maybe 2-3% of the nickel-plated steel surface. Mechanically flawless with strong cutter spring and sharp un-nicked cutting blade. A striking old transitional Victorian/Nouveau sterling silver on steel cigar or cheroot cutter. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING -- EBAY POLICY CHANGE If I have not offered the inexpensive First Class International Mail option (see the Shipping calculator and/or the Shipping and payments tab near top), you may want to read the following: For more than eleven years I have always offered my many international buyers a choice between inexpensive First Class Mail and the more secure & faster Express and/or Priority options. Due to new eBay/PayPal requirements that I provide proof of delivery in order to receive any protection whatsoever for my merchandise/sales, I am now (starting 9/21/09) normally offering only Express Mail for international shipments (Priority for larger items). Such shipping starts at about $25 ($20 for Canada & Mexico). Virtually all of my small items such as pocket lighters will ship for less than $30. I've shipped hundreds of items by First Class International for years, but that was when proof of shipment and the buyer's choice to take the no-insurance risk was good enough for comfort for both of us -- and eBay/PayPal -- no more! On most of my fine antiques & collectables worth less than $100, you will certainly limit your bidding due to this approximately $20 increase in shipping costs -- a loss for you & I both! If you wish to bid under $50 on an item for which I have not offered the First Class International option, I will still consider taking the risk of shipping that item by First Class for around $5 if you win it; but you must request such special shipping before bidding, and I will reply based on your buying history, feedback, etc. Thank you for your time, interest & bids, Mike............................whoa! DOMESTIC SHIPPING Due to eBay's new policy (9/09) disallowing buyer's choice in regard to shipping insurance, I will, at times, for the first time ever, be increasing my shipping & handling charges past $0.50-1.00 for my small items -- when I feel that USPS insurance is appropriate for the subject item. In such cases, I will only be adding a small amount to cover minimal insurance -- if I choose to pay for full postal insurance, that will not affect your cost. Whether I add a small amount to my S&H charge or not, all of my items will now be insured, either postally-insured or self-insured. For more fine, antique and vintage lighters for tobacco pipes, cigars and cigarettes, View a GALLERY of my ECLECTIC AUCTIONS HERE. If you wish to add my listings to your FAVORITES list, just click here. Read my GUARANTEES and other POLICIES HERE. PROMPT PAYMENT PLEASE Payment to be made within three days of my "winning bid" invoice. As per eBay policy, PayPal preferred. Any questions regarding payment must be sent before placing bid. I reserve the right to cancel any transaction if payment is not made within three days of my invoice. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS - CUSTOMS Consider the added cost of customs/VAT charges BEFORE BIDDING. I welcome international business, but will only put accurate information on customs forms. Items will be declared at selling price and listed as merchandise. Any duties or taxes charged by your government or postal service are your responsibility. I reserve the right to cancel any transaction when the successful/winning bidder questions my custom's policy in any manner. SHIPPING Shipping options & costs, both domestic & international, can be found by clicking on the "Shipping & payments" tab above my description. Questions or comments?
